Why should organisations care whether you have supervision? What’s in it for them – and also what’s in it for you? In this masterclass Lise and Eve will look at what makes supervision successful from the perspective of all the stakeholders, and then introduce two approaches to supervision. This will help us develop our ability to supervise ourselves in the moment while coaching or mentoring – what Schon called reflection-in-action – as well as when being supervised. The first, and perhaps best-known model in western Europe, is the 7-eyed model (Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet). This looks at each context with seven “lenses”, including the systemic and is featured through a medium that encourages your active participation. The second, less well known, is supervising drawing on Nancy Kline’s Thinking Environment©, creating a space for reflection where attention and listening skills are paramount. You will learn and practice how to use both to add value for you and the organisations in which you work.

Dr Lise Lewis integrated coaching with mentoring following a career in human resources and loves the learning and transformation that working with others achieves. Recognising the added value that supervision brings, Lise became a trained supervisor and also led the first EMCC working group that created the European Supervision Quality Award (ESQA). Her company Bluesky International was among the first group of training providers to attain this quality award for supervisor training. Lise was International President of EMCC for six years from 2011-2017. Combining joyful family time with walking Charlie a winsome Cavachon, Lise also relishes fun with friends and keeps active – physically as opposed to busy! – with tap dancing, cycling and samba drumming – when she’s ‘in town”!

Eve Turner combines a passion for coaching and supervision with a love of food, football, fitness and family, not necessarily in that order! Now on her third career, she remains excited, and continuously refreshed, by the learning and stretch supervision brings to her and her practice. As a musician, then senior leader in the BBC, she is constantly reminded that working with others is both a delight and a challenge. An EMCC accredited supervisor and EMCC 2015 Coach of the Year, ethics, contracting and supervision are some of her areas of interest. Her co-edited book on supervision is due out in 2018. Eve has set up the Global Supervisors’ Network; members provide continuous personal and professional development to fellow supervisors across the world.
